Juwairiyya, a fiery 14-year-old, storms through the streets, fueled by rage and determined to confront Tasi, a boy who insulted her blind father, Baba Idris. Her younger sister Nafisa warns her of Tasi’s approach with his friends, but Juwairiyya, undeterred, charges at him, berating him for mocking her father’s blindness at Islamiyya. Tasi retorts, accusing her family of begging, prompting her to attack him and his friends in a fierce brawl. Her siblings, Nafisa and Bidaya, flee home, alerting their mother, who calls Ismail to intervene. Ismail rescues Juwairiyya, dragging her home where their mother, Mariya, scolds her for fighting like a boy. Baba Idris, calm despite his disability, urges Juwairiyya to ignore insults and accept their family’s struggles as God’s test, emphasizing his contentment despite his blindness.
Two days later, Juwairiyya encounters Tasi again. He and his friends block her path, seeking revenge. Unfazed, she fights back, but her hijab and clothes tear, exposing her maturing figure. The local imam intervenes, sending her home humiliated. Fearing her mother’s wrath, she sneaks through the backyard, but her sister Bidaya’s scream alerts Mariya. Mariya, furious, has Najib, Juwairiyya’s university-aged brother, discipline her. Juwairiyya, unrepentant, vows to defend her father’s honor, moving Baba Idris to tears. He gently warns her against fighting, fearing it taints her future, while Mariya laments her daughter’s stubbornness, praying for her guidance.
Hajiya Asiya, Mariya’s sister, suggests taking Juwairiyya to Kano for her niece Amal’s wedding preparations, hoping distance will calm her. Juwairiyya, thrilled, visits a neighbor to boast about her trip, warning against further insults to her father. In Kano, at Hajiya Asiya’s grand home, Juwairiyya clashes with Rayyan, Amal’s fiancé, who insults her after she accidentally trips over him, injuring her forehead. Despite her fiery retort, she learns Rayyan is Amal’s betrothed, complicating her anger due to her loyalty to Amal. At a family meeting, tensions rise as Amal, distressed, rejects the marriage, fearing Rayyan’s character. The family, led by Baba Umaru, pushes for the wedding, but Amal’s dramatic collapse after declaring disaster shocks everyone, leaving Juwairiyya’s presence and the looming wedding in turmoil.
