Chapter One
KATSINA STATE
The neighborhood displayed a mix of large and small houses, revealing a blend of old and new. Some houses were brand new, while others carried the mark of time. There were large, beautiful houses belonging to discernible owners, and more modest ones that seemed to hide their occupants behind a veil of secrecy. Despite the variety, the neighborhood maintained a certain calmness, with occasional hints of wealth and mystery.
A navy blue Corolla S car entered the street at a moderate speed, abruptly halting due to a group of young girls, aged around 13 to 14, running across the road. One of them carried a white bucket, indicating she was selling something. The car's driver, still wearing signs of sadness, managed to avoid a collision but couldn't escape the disturbance caused by the sudden appearance of the girls. Observing them fighting, the driver lowered his car window and tried to communicate with them, only to be met with resistance.
Ignoring his attempts, the girls continued their scuffle. The man in the car, feeling frustrated, stepped out. Admiringly described as a beautiful man with a medium height, smooth skin, and a well-groomed appearance, he intervened in the conflict. The situation involved a girl named Fatun, trying to retrieve her bucket from another girl. The man, captivated by Fatun's insistence, attempted to mediate.
The man's appearance was described in detail—his smooth skin, well-maintained hair, and stylish attire. Dressed in a navy blue suit with a black collar and shirt, he wore a necktie and a silver wristwatch. Despite being a foreigner, he seamlessly blended into the scene. Frustrated by the unfolding events, he confronted the aggressor, demanding that she release the girl. The situation escalated when the aggressor, angered by the man's intervention, retorted in English.
Chapter One offers a glimpse into the neighborhood's dynamics, introducing a character caught in a moment of conflict, and highlighting the cultural diversity present in Katsina State.
